Booked the trip through Regent Cruise Lines as a side and was pleasantly surprised. I am a retired captain that has run a lot of fishing charters and this one was exceptional. The captain/guide knew his stuff, that is how to fish and run a good enjoyable trip. Even though it was raining and we were in an open skiff, we were comfortable with the rain gear provided. The fishing tackle was first rate as was all of the equipment. Unfortunately, the guide did not have a card and I cannot remember his name or I would recommend him highly. The final part of our trip was to a wilderness camp where an excellent chef prepared our fish. We got to meet others that had booked this expedition and all seemed more than satisfied. The Coho salmon and rockfish I caught was fantastic. I would recommend this outfit to anyone looking for a great fishing experience.

Before we even booked our Alaskan cruise, we knew we wanted to book a private fishing charter. After some research and talking with other friends who had gone on an Alaskan cruise, many people recommended Baranof to us. Boy, am I glad we booked this! This ended up being our most favorite excursion out of all the excursions we've taken over 5 cruises. Not only did we get super lucky weather-wise, but we were also paired up with the best guide duo (Geoff and Grace) on the newest and best boat (Amazing Grace) Baranof has to offer! Geoff and his 12-year-old daughter, Grace, were extremely knowledgeable, professional, and a ton of fun to spend the day with. We had our 12 year old son with us, too, so it was even more perfect that Grace was one of our guides. After hearing the different options we had to choose from, we chose to do the "Cook Your Catch", where we were taken to several different fishing spots to catch rockfish, salmon, and halibut, and then Geoff took us to the wilderness camp, where Geoff prepared our fish for the camp cook to cook up for us. During that time, Grace showed us around camp and the beach and took pictures for us. Lunch was amazing, there is no fresher way to eat fish than "water to table," and the dessert we were served was AMAZING! While the fish were not really biting the day we went due to a big storm that had come in the night before, we did catch five rockfish, and had an extremely enjoyable time on the water visiting with Geoff and Grace. We all agreed that we couldn't wait to come back to Ketchikan again and would definitely be booking another private charter with Baranof, especially if we can spend another wonderful afternoon with Geoff and Grace on the Amazing Grace. A++++

We had a great day catching halibut and cod and then a great meal of fresh fish at the wilderness camp. They made everything so easy. Thank you to Captain Trent and Kim. We even saw orcas and humpback whales on our way back. We highly recommend this trip.

My wife and I enjoyed our Wilderness camp meal, complete with a bouquet of flowers and Champagne compliments of Baranof! Owen and Tyler did a commendable job making us feel special! Owen expertly fillet our fish and Tyler cooked it to perfection! The bonus was the bald Eagles on the Island.

We chose to book the private boat because there were 4 of us and a 1st time trip for one couple. Chris was our guide and he is the best. I personally had a trip with him in 2016 & had such a great time we requested him for 2017. Chris is extremely knowledgeable & patient throughout the tangles & seasickness some experienced. We limited on rockfish & Kings that were above average size & took home 2 large Halibut. We had to release 2 Halibut that were too large, as well as numerous small kings & rockfish. A fantastic fishing trip even though it rained most of the time! Dinner at the wilderness camp topped off a fabulous vacation. We will be back next year.

This was my second Alaskan fishing charter and it was absolutely the best fishing trip I have ever been on. I only caught one rock fish but I don't care so much if I catch anything as much as the trip itself. The Captan of the boat was Matt Carlson. He was born and raised here in Alaska and he knows where and how to catch fish here. After fishing he took us to their wilderness camp where they cooked the fish we caught. We had a open fire with a blue enamel coffee pot full of coffee. I'm not sure of the recipe for the fish but it was wonderful. There was only three of us fishing and and I counted at least eight people to take care of us. At sometime in my life I would love to come back to this very place and fish. Thank all of you for one of the happiest times of my life.

Fishing with shore lunch

Booked a trip with Baranof through our cruise ship for a fishing trip with shore lunch. Baranof staff was friendly and helpful. They provided us with rain gear and rubber boots for our skiff fishing trip. We caught a 1/2 dozen or so rock fish, then trolled for pink salmon. No salmon caught. Fishing was a bit slow, but that is fishing, not catching. It was rainy and on the cool side (August in Alaska), fishing guide Mike worked hard to put us on fish, and was helpful all the way. We then headed to their private camp site for lunch, prepared with our freshly caught fish. Nice way to experience a bit of "wilderness" without really having to rough it. Lunch was delicious. ID is needed for fishing license. Not a restaurant, but lunch was cooked for us on site with drinks and plenty of hot coffee.

We signed up for the Alaska Fishing and Wilderness Dining excursion. Communication and signup with Baranof was a breeze. We got off the ship a little early, but couldn't find our guide. We called butnoone answered the number. Luckily we found someone else from the company and they said they'd walk us to our location if our captain didn't arrive. We started walking and caught up with John (booking gave him the wrong ship name so he was waiting at the wrong location). We head to the dock, get geared up in boots and fishing gear, and hop on the boat. We went bottle fishing at 250 feet deep. Wow, what hard work. We caught 7 rockfish (but could only keep 4), 1 halibut, 2 sharks, and a ratfish. John was awesome and patient (I've fished often, but never this deep or for this kind of fish). When we were done, we headed to a beautiful camp where we sat around a fire drinking cocoa and coffee. John filleted the fish and the cook cooked an amazing dish with the rockfish, halibut, potatoes, and some sauce. The food and desert were amazing. After eating, we headed back but first John stopped where a pair of bald eagles live and threw out one of the fishwe weren't planning to keep. The eagle circled a few times and then done for the fish. I got amazing pictures and videos. This was a great experience and John was amazing.
