FISHING FOR
Lingcod
in Ketchikan, Alaska
Lingcod are fierce, unpredictable, and an absolute thrill to catch. With their toothy grin, camouflaged coloring, and aggressive nature, they strike hard and fight harder. Often caught while bottom fishing for halibut or rockfish, Lingcod are a prized bonus for anglers who want something a little wilder at the end of the line. Not actually a cod, but just as delicious. Lingcod can grow up to 40 inches long and weigh 30 pounds or more. Their meat is firm and flaky; sometimes even tinged blue before cooking, and highly valued for its mild flavor and versatility. You’ll find them lurking near rocky reefs and drop-offs, ambushing prey with lightning speed.

- Bottom Fishing: With heavy tackle and bait rigs or large jigs near reefs and ledges.
- Aggressive Hits: Lingcod strike hard and fast. It’s not uncommon for them to chase a hooked rockfish to the boat!
- Jigging: Soft plastics or large metal jigs bounced along the seafloor are highly effective.
Deep Structure Focus: Our guides know the reefs and rock piles where Lingcod love to ambush.
